Where they hide:

Mattress seams and box springs, bedframes and headboards, nightstands and furniture joints, baseboards and wall cracks. Behind pictures and electrical plates, luggage, clothing and upholstered furniture.

Damage:

Itchy bite marks often in clusters or lines (bite reactions vary-some people show no reaction), rust colored stains on bedding, black fecal spotting. Bed bugs shed skin, have a musty, sweet odor in heavy infestations and you might see live bugs in seams or cracks.

Description and Lifecycle:

Adults are about 4-7 mm long (about the size of an apple seed) flat oval bodies, reddish-brown in color; darker after feeding. Bed bugs are active primarily at night and feed on humans but can also feed on pets. Females lay 1-5 eggs per day. They can survive several months without feeding and hitchhike via luggage, furniture or clothing.

Control Measures:

Vacuuming and use the crevice tool on seams and cracks and immediately dispose of contents in a sealed bag, this will reduce the population but not eliminate the infestation alone. Mattress and box spring encasements will trap existing bugs inside and prevent new harborage and must remain sealed for 12 months.
